Experience with the Rule of Six

After we had started talking about the "Rule of Six" in class, I had decided to take another look at what I was working with for my trailer. With my initial approach I wanted to make the story clear (which is important when spoofing a movie) But I realized that it wasn't enough. I had my story in place in what I wanted to tell people, while leaving some anticipation for the audience to want to see more. After watching it initially I saw that the plot was there, but there was no hook, no thrill desire. Alex had talked to me when I showed him my rough and he said it almost starts out too intense and it doesn't really go anywhere and we get used to the intensity. I spent a while thinking about how I could get it to work after I had timed everything so perfectly to my song I chose (Hypnotica by Two Steps From Hell). I finally had an idea! I put the intro to a Disney movie at the start of the trailer! It was great because it made it start out as if it was going to be a cute movie and then it cut to the intense trailer. But that was also the problem. It seemed too abrupt and the cut was too forced and obvious. I kept working with it and finally it hit me to give the trailer an emotional response. I decided to attempt to lure the audience in with the sweetness but I had to make it seem like that sweetness was corrupt (Much like Ralph is in my trailer) So I decided to add a glitch effect to the Disney intro and used it as a transition sequence into the start of the trailer, thus giving me a smoother (and also more emotional) impact. But then I ran into the problem of it almost just peaking there and staying there, I wasn't sure how to handle this but then I thought that adding the audio from the movie (Vanellope's scream, and King Candy driving into the Cybug) would give it that extra build and height before it's taken away with the title screen "Game Over". For the most part I thought it was pretty successful. I haven't had too many bad comments except for what I already know but I'm not 100% sure how to fix that. But overall I believe that this was one of my (if not my absolute) favorite projects to do.

P.S.- I'll leave a think here to my trailer when I upload it to YouTube.
